Are You Sleeping on Plastic?

The truth about your pillow

Are you sleeping on plastic?

Around 80% of pillows sold today are synthetic — polyester and foam made from plastic that sheds microscopic fibres into the air you breathe all night. Woolow is the natural alternative: 100% Irish wool. Nothing synthetic. Nothing chemical.

Are you sleeping on plastic?
What you cannot see

You spend about a third of your life with your face pressed into your pillow.

~3,000 hrs

Time the average adult spends each year with their face against a pillow.

~8 hrs sleep × 365 nights
Blood. Lungs. Brain.

Microplastics have now been detected throughout the human body, and concentrations appear to be rising over time.

Indoors > outdoors

Indoor air can carry more microplastic particles than outdoor air, shed from synthetic textiles including bedding.

The science on what this means for our health is still emerging. But one thing is in your control: what you choose to put next to your face, every single night.

Look inside your pillow

Two pillows. One of them is plastic.

Most pillows hide what they are made of. Here is the honest cross-section — switch between the two and see for yourself.

The synthetic pillow

Good questions

What people ask before switching

Wait — does not wool shed fibres too? +
It can shed a little natural fibre, but that is the key difference: wool is a natural protein fibre, not plastic. Anything it sheds is biodegradable. The microplastics concern is specific to synthetic fills — polyester, microfibre and polyurethane foam — which shed tiny plastic particles that persist in your home, your body and the environment.
Is wool hot to sleep on? +
The opposite. Wool is one of the most breathable natural fibres — it regulates temperature and wicks moisture, so it keeps you cool in summer and cosy in winter.
Is it itchy? +
No. The wool is sealed inside a soft 300-thread cotton casing, so what your skin rests against is smooth cotton, never raw wool.
Is it good for allergies? +
Yes — wool is naturally hypoallergenic and resists dust mites, mould and mildew, which is why it carries an international Allergy Seal of Approval.
